Australian Open Results
By Michael Knight - January 18 2000
Jelena Dokic has been eliminated in the first round of the Australian Open. She was defeated by Rita Kuti Kis (ranked 86), 6-1 2-6 6-3.
Pretty disappointing considering what she's capable of. To give you a better idea of what happened I have collected two articles for you to read:
The first article is from Alain Desmier, a good friend of mine from jelena-dokic.com. It is very detailed and gives you a good idea just what was happening out there. Click here to read it.
The second article is from www.ausopen.org.au. It also writes about Mark Philippoussis surviving. Click here to read it.
However, Jelena loss wasn't the only thing that plagued her day. To add sob to sorrow she was fined over $3,500 for being a "bad sportsperson".
This "unsportsperson-like" behaviour included being late for a post match media conference and for "taking a swipe" at her opponent during the conference. She said that she (Jelena) was beaten by someone who wasn't a player and probably would never be.
You can read this short article written from the ABC here about Jelena being fined for not attending a press conference.
So far Jelena seems to be having a bad year. Lets hope she can pick up her game and return to form!
