Dokic speaks out over 'rigged' claim
By the ABC - January 20 2000
Australia's Jelena Dokic has caused another sensation at the Australian Open.
Dokic is demanding a Melbourne newspaper release the full interview from which she was quoted as saying tournament draws were rigged against her.
Dokic told a packed news conference she did not make the claim and says the Herald Sun reporter made up the story.
She says every aspect of the story was false, and she has never been unfairly treated in the draws.
"You get some tough ones but you have just got to get out there and play," she said.
Dokic also fired a shot at her management and the Women's Tennis Association for not supporting her in clearing the matter.
The Herald-Sun is standing by its report.
Reporter John Ferguson says he is not prepared to get into a slanging match with Dokic, while editor Peter Blunden says the paper will not be releasing the tape as that would set a bad precedent.
On court, Dokic has had a better day. She won her doubles match with partner Jennifer Capriati and will move to the second round.
