Australia Make Fed Cup World Group
by Tennis Australia - July 25, 1999
Teenage tennis sensation JELENA DOKIC has clinched a Fed Cup world group place for Australia with a 7-5 6-2 victory over Dutchwoman Kristie Boogert.
The win gave Australia an unassailable 2-0 lead over the Netherlands in the final of this eight-country qualifying tournament.
Earlier Australian No.2 NICOLE PRATT had to dig deep to win a two and three-quarter hour marathon contest against MIRIAM OREMANS 6-4 3-6 10-8.
OREMANS looked down and out at 0-3 and 0-40 behind in the final set but rallied to come back to 3-3.
The Dutchwoman saved a match point at 5-6 with an overhead but squandered a chance to serve for the match at 7-6.
PRATT's consistency and confidence returned and she eventually won the 89-minute final set 10-8.
Australia is the last of 13 nations to qualify for the 2000 World Group.
