A Personal Fan's Letter

Hi,

It's great to hear that you actually appreciate my offer as many others say that I am making it up. I live in Brisbane, and each year in August I go down to Sydney for the Serbian Festival in Bonnirigg and Jelena is there too.

Her birthday IS the 12th, however she was born in Osijek in Croatia, and because she is Serb she migrated to Belgrade (Serbia) in 1991. Her fathers name IS Damir however her mother is Ljiljana (not Liliana as the Aussies like to say. Her little brother is Savo (not Zavo as it said).

She is a very proud Serb and she claims it to be her nationality although like many of us, she is a proud Australian too, as this country has offered many of us homes that we have lost in the war.

She battled her first years in Aust. because of the lack of English which she now speaks with a minimal accent (like me). She walked to training 3km each morning as the Dokic's didn't have a car and at times could not afford public transport.

Last year at the festival she was given the religious cross that she wears out proudly during every match with the words "nek te Bog cuva Jelena" (let God protect you Jelena).
